Use the Categories page in the Quickvee web back office to arrange the category tiles cashiers see, set tile colors, and control the order shoppers see online. You can also create, rename, and manage category settings from the same page.
Manage category order and settings in the Quickvee web back office, not on the POS register. POS register order and online store order are separate.
After a change, wait for the page status to show Up to date. Then check the register or online store to confirm the update.
Before you begin
-
Category settings apply to every product assigned to that category.
-
The online-store order and POS register order are separate. Reordering one does not change the other.
-
Tile color is used as an accent stripe on the POS register tile. It does not change the appearance of products or the online store category.
-
A saved POS-register order applies across the store. Check a register after saving to confirm the change.
-
Wait for the page status to show Up to date before leaving. Make changes when cashiers and shoppers are ready to see them.
Open the Categories page
-
Sign in to the Quickvee web back office.
-
In the side menu, select Inventory.
-
Select Categories.
Access path: Inventory > Categories
The top of the page shows the total number of categories, a Search categories field, an Add category button, and three views:
|
View |

Find a category
-
Select Search categories.
-
Enter all or part of a category name.
-
Review or edit the matching row.
-
Clear the search field to return to the full list.
Search works in the category list views and is useful when an account has many categories.
Reorder category tiles on the POS register
Use register order to place high-use categories, especially categories containing non-barcoded items, where cashiers can reach them faster.
-
On the Categories page, select POS register.
-
Review the Register preview, which shows the category bar cashiers see.
-
Drag a category tile to the position where you want it to appear.
-
Repeat for any other categories you want to move.
-
Wait for the status at the top of the reordering section to show Up to date before leaving the page.
Each register tile shows:
-
The category name.
-
The number of items assigned to the category.
-
The category's current position, such as #1.
-
The selected color as an accent stripe across the top.
-
A pencil icon that opens the full category editor.
The first positions are the most prominent. A practical starting point is to place your most frequently used non-barcoded categories first, followed by other high-volume categories.
📝 Changing the POS register order does not change the online-store order. Once the status shows Up to date, check a register to confirm the new arrangement.
Choose a category tile color
Color appears as the accent stripe on the category tile at the register. Use distinct colors to help cashiers recognize frequently used categories at a glance.
Use the quick color picker
-
Open the Alphabetical or Online store view.
-
Select the colored bar beside the category you want to update.
-
Choose one of the ten preset colors, or enter a custom hex color value.
-
Select Apply.
Change color from the full category editor
-
Select the pencil icon beside the category. In POS register view, the pencil is inside the tile.
-
Under Tile color, choose a preset or enter a custom hex value.
-
Select Save changes.
The editor identifies tile color as the accent stripe used on the register tile. Changing it does not change the category's online store order or its channel settings.
Reorder categories in the online store
Online-store order is managed separately from register order.
-
On the Categories page, select Online store.
-
Find the six-dot drag handle on the left side of a category row.
-
Drag the row to the position where you want shoppers to see it on quickvee.com.
-
Repeat as needed.
-
Wait for the status to show Up to date before leaving the page.
The number beside each category name shows its current online-store position. This number is independent of the number shown in the POS-register preview.
To review the shopper-facing store, select View Online Store in the upper-right corner of the back office. The storefront may ask the viewer to complete age verification before displaying age-restricted products.
Add a category
-
Select Add category.
-
Enter a Category name. This field is required.
-
Optionally enter a Description. The form states that this description appears on the category landing page online.
-
Choose a Tile color from the presets or enter a custom hex value.
-
Review the channel, loyalty, compliance, and tax settings described below.
-
Select Create category.
-
Open Online store or POS register and move the new category to the appropriate position for that channel.
⚠️ In the released form, a new category initially shows Show on register, In-store pickup, Local delivery, Earn points, and Redeem points enabled. Lottery items and EBT / SNAP eligible are initially disabled, and available taxes must be selected. Review these defaults rather than assuming they are appropriate for the new category.
After creation, open the Online store and POS register views to confirm the category appears in the intended channels and move it to the correct position in each view.
Rename a category
-
Find the category in the list. Use Search categories if needed.
-
Select the pencil icon in the category row.
-
Replace the text in Category name.
-
Review the other settings to make sure they are still correct.
-
Select Save changes.
After saving, check the register and online store to confirm the updated name. Renaming a category does not create a new category; the products already assigned to it remain in that category.
Edit category settings
Select the pencil icon beside a category to open the full editor. The top of the panel shows the category name, product count, and where it is currently used.
Identity
|
Setting |
What it controls |
|---|---|
|
Category name |
The name shown to staff and shoppers. It is required. |
|
Description |
Optional text shown on the category landing page online. |
|
Tile color |
The accent stripe on the POS-register category tile. Choose a preset or enter a custom hex value. |
Channels and fulfillment
|
Setting |
What happens when enabled |
|---|---|
|
Show on register |
The category appears as a tile in the cashier's category bar. Turn this off if cashiers should not browse the category from the register bar. |
|
In-store pickup |
Customers can order products in the category online and pick them up in the store. |
|
Local delivery |
Products in the category are eligible for delivery within the store's delivery zone. |
The Register, Pickup, and Delivery badges in the category list reflect these settings.
Loyalty points
|
Setting |
What happens when enabled |
|---|---|
|
Earn points |
Customers earn loyalty points when buying products in the category. |
|
Redeem points |
Customers can redeem loyalty points on products in the category. |
These controls are independent for regular categories. For example, a category can earn points but not allow redemption. The Loyalty badge in the list indicates that loyalty behavior is enabled.
Compliance and restrictions
|
Setting |
What it does |
|---|---|
|
Lottery items |
Treats sales in the category as lottery-ticket sales that are settled separately at the end of the day. When enabled, Quickvee disables in-store pickup, local delivery, earning points, redeeming points, and EBT/SNAP for the category. Taxes do not apply to lottery categories in this form. Show on register remains available. |
|
EBT / SNAP eligible |
Allows customers to pay with EBT cards for products in the category. If Lottery items is enabled afterward, EBT/SNAP is turned off and disabled. |
Because enabling Lottery items changes several other settings, review the entire category before saving.
Taxes
The Taxes section lists the taxes configured for the store. Select the tax or taxes that should apply to products in this category. The editor describes these choices as category-level overrides to the store-wide tax settings.
Taxes are unavailable when Lottery items is enabled.
Save or cancel
-
Select Save changes to apply the edited settings to the category and its assigned products.
-
Select Cancel or the X at the top of the panel to leave without saving.
-
The footer shows how many products will be affected.
Review the products in a category
The current Categories page shows a product count but no longer includes the old View Items link. To review products in a category:
-
In the side menu, select Inventory.
-
Select Products.
-
Use the Category filter and choose the category you want to review.
-
Use the product table to review the assigned category and online-ordering settings.
-
Open a product record when you need to change its product details or category assignment.
This is also the safest place to identify products that must be moved before a category is deleted.
Delete one category
-
Review the category's product count.
-
If products are still assigned, use Inventory → Products to review and move them first.
-
Return to Inventory → Categories.
-
Select the trash icon beside the category.
-
Follow the on-screen deletion flow, checking the category name and product count before completing it.
📝 Deleting a category is different from turning off Show on register, pickup, or delivery. Use the channel controls when you only want to hide or restrict the category in a specific place.
Delete multiple categories
-
Select the box beside each category you intend to delete.
-
Review the selected count shown above the list.
-
Select Delete to begin the bulk deletion flow, or select Clear to remove the selection without changing anything.
-
Review every selected category and its products before completing the deletion flow.
Troubleshooting
I do not see drag handles
You are probably in Alphabetical view. Select Online store to drag rows or POS register to drag tiles.
The online order and register order do not match
This is expected. Quickvee stores the online-store and POS-register orders independently. Arrange each view separately.
A category does not appear on the register
Open the category editor and confirm that Show on register is enabled. Then confirm its placement in POS register view.
A category is not available for online ordering
Open the category editor and review In-store pickup and Local delivery. Also confirm that products are assigned to the category and are enabled for the intended ordering method in Inventory → Products.
A color changed, but the online store looks the same
This is expected. Tile color is the accent stripe on the POS-register category tile.
Reordering does not finish
Remain on the page until the status returns to Up to date. If it does not, refresh the page and check whether the order was retained. Contact Quickvee Support if the status continues to remain incomplete.
